Selecting Billiard Pool Table Lights and Lamps
Proper and adequate lighting on your billiard table is essential in order to make your shots to the best of your ability. Poor lighting can affect the billiard shooter in a number of ways, including shadow casting, poor judgment of bumper distance, and so on. And of course there is the obvious…it might just be too dark to see. That is why billiard table lamps and pool table lights are more of a necessity than a luxury.
Billiard table lamps are most commonly anchored to the ceiling directly above the billiard table. Your billiard table light should be at least three feet above the surface of your billiard table for a couple of reasons. First, you want light to shine evenly across the billiard table. Hanging a billiard table lamp too low will cause the billiard table to be lighted unevenly, creating pockets of light and shadows. Also, if you are a tall billiard shooter, you run the risk of conking your head on the table light during shots. This can be more dangerous than you think, especially if you have a Tiffany billiard lamp or stained glass table lights.
You may choose to hang billiard table lamps in other places in your billiard room, also. The reason behind placing a pool table light directly above the table is to keep shadows from being cast at uneven angles. However, it is your billiard room, and billiard lamps come in different sizes and styles. Usually, a set of three billiard table lights are used over a billiard table. However, a single Tiffany billiard table lamp might go great over a pub table and matching bar stools in the corner, or a double lamp would illuminate a small bar nicely.
Billiard table lamps come in a plethora of different designs, colors and materials. When purchasing a billiard table lamp, a balance should be found between quality, functionality, aesthetic characteristics, and price. Every type of material is available from plastic and metal to stained glass and Tiffany style billiard table lamps. Many lampshade styles are out there to choose from, and different kinds of lighting are available, including incandescent, fluorescent, and so on.
Billiard table lights are usually attached to the ceiling above the billiard table. Installation of the pool table light will most likely require the use of tools and, quite possibly, more than one person. Chains and reinforced steel bolts are commonly used to secure the billiard table lamp to the cross braces in a basement ceiling, and a general understanding of electrical work is not a prerequisite, but is definitely helpful and much safer. Hopefully this article has been helpful. Good luck with your new billiard table lamp, and enjoy your new billiard room.
