If you are considering creating your own home billiard room, you probably have a thousand thoughts bouncing around in your head on how to do so. What colors should I use? Do I buy a small pool table or a big one? What should I decorate my billiard room walls with? Do I also need to have supplementary games? These questions, along with many more, will haunt you when deciding how to create the perfect home billiard room. However, perfection most often lies in the eye of the beholder. Below are some common items you will need to get started in creating your own billiard room, along with ideas for decorating, although your end result will ultimately be up to you.
Assuming that your new billiard room is ready to go as far as paint, flooring, ceiling, etc., your first thought should be somewhat obvious…a pool table. Without the billiard table, the billiard room has trouble existing on its own. Determine what color felt you want, and decide on features best suited to your personal interests (i.e. stain color, wood type, leg style, etc.). Pool tables generally range from 5-9 feet in length, so go with a size that best suits your new billiard room. A larger pool table may not be best for a smaller billiard room. Pick a table that will fit comfortably in the room, leaving plenty of space for extra movement or other activities.
Billiard equipment and supplies are next on the list. Of course, some items are just as necessary as the billiard table itself. These items include billiard balls, at least one pool cue stick, a racking triangle, and chalk. It is also a good idea to have an extra pool cue stick or two in case something happens to your primary stick. Other billiard equipment worth having, but not entirely necessary, are a pool cue stick rack (preferably a wall-mounted version to save floor space), a couple of different size pool cue sticks and a bridge for longer and shorter varying shots, a 9-ball rack, and a cue tip sander. Other billiard supplies that don’t hurt to have lying around are extra cue stick tips, a cue stick case, rubber chalk holders and extra chalk, and an extra cue ball.
Once you have purchased most of the billiard supplies already listed, your new home billiard room is, for all intents and purposes, ready to go. It is up to you to decide which types of billiard room furniture you will want to use. Some prefer a couch or recliners with a pub table and pub stools in the corner. Others prefer to keep the extra space open, opting for a few bar stools or chairs for spectators and nothing else. Again, a lot of these decisions may be dictated by the size of your billiard room, but don’t forget about the ample amount of wall space you have, as well. Decorative mirrors, neon or felt clocks, light-up neon signs, wall cue racks, and sports apparel (signed jerseys, pennants, etc.) are great billiard room furniture décor elements and take up no extra floor space at all. A nice Tiffany stained glass pool table lamp also takes up no space, adding class and ambiance to an otherwise dull atmosphere.
Just remember to choose billiard equipment and billiard room furniture that you like. Do not hang things on your new billiard room walls just to fill up space. Sometimes less is more. Instead, put the finishing touches on your new billiard room with your personal interests in mind. That way, there will be no end to the enjoyment you receive every time you utilize your new home billiard room.
